Grades 7-8: Week of 1/8/24

In Social Studies, students continued their study of World War I, including changes in warfare, reasons for the conflict, larger moral issues involved, and eventually, the American entry in 1917. We begin our discussion of the Versailles Treaty and after-effects of the war.

Muscles are the topic of interest for 7-8 Science. While there are hundreds of muscles in the body, they are all alike in having 1 main action. Ask your student what that is!

In Civics, students discussed the merging of their LA and history classes, within the scope of the study of socialism. The counter-arguments were discussed openly and with great interest and curiosity by the kids.

In Language Arts, we started Animal Farm by learning about Communism, its ideals, and how it continued in practice. We also read the first chapter. It’s an exciting time.

In Judaics, we are working on a project called the Jews of Mizrahi Lands. Michal Gilmore came in to speak about her family’s experience coming from Afghanistan.

Students in 7th grade Math have been solving and graphing inequalities.

Algebra 1 students had to design a logo for Israel's 76 independence day on a graphing calculator using equations and inequalities.

This week in Art, the students started a landscape painting on canvas! We talked about the horizon line and the importance of paint washes.

This week in Music was a study week for the upcoming music test that the students have next Thursday. Our performers were Teddy, Aaron, Max, Raphael, and Dan performing Dap beats and our Mimi Award Winner was Ruth!
