Grades 7-8: Week of 12/11/23

In Social Studies, after some time off to prepare for the show, students returned to finalize their Civil War analysis essays. We also began our final unit before break, on industry and immigration in the late 19th Century.

In Language Arts, we picked up Nothing But the Truth again and are deep into who tells the truth and who doesn’t. In addition, we began to ask what the characters’ motivations are for their actions. There is a vocabulary test on Friday.

Civics class was preempted for other activities, but their work in Social Studies/History overlapped in discussions of monopolies and social changes.

In Judaics, we had a fascinating discussion about why the miracle of the oil story pretty much supplanted the story of the Maccabees. The rabbis hated the Hasmonean Dynasty!

For Music, we had the Chanukah production this week and used our class time to reflect on the show – thinking through constructive feedback and giving lots of compliments! We also worked on Treble Clef notes using a fun game. Our Mimi Award winner was Gabby!
