Grades 7-8: Week of 11/6/23

In Social Studies, students continued the Civil War unit, learning about the overall causes and events that led to the outbreak of the war. We also discussed Election Day, looking at a few local ballots, and learned about the history of Veterans’ Day. Students attended two guest speaker events in honor of the day: a navy and air force veteran.

In Civics, students discussed the reasons for service in the US military, as inspired by the veterans’ visits, and discussed how service can benefit the nation, but also the individual. Free-style discussion was productive and respectful.

In Math, 7th graders continued to work on simplifying expressions. 8th graders learned about scooter plots and inverses of linear functions.

7th-8th grade science students finished work on the micro-organization of the long bone (ask your student for the correct name of the bone ‘examined’). Next week, it’s on to a bit of comparative anatomy as they discover the skeletal architecture of small animals by investigating owl pellets.

This week in Art, the students painted their gargoyles/grotesques and worked on an Ezra t-shirt design.

This week in Music was theory day, in which they learned about Treble and Bass Clef notes, as well as starting to understand pitch. Our performer was Eleanor on the piano, and our Mimi Award winners were Raphael & Ariel!
