This Week in Grades 5-6!

1st blog of the school year!

In the first few weeks in Language Arts, we spent time in class composing our summer book reports. We also created entertaining slideshow presentations to persuade other students to read the books. Students performed very well on their first vocab test and we have covered the basics of parts of speech in grammar.

In Judaics, we had a test on the word Tanach, in which everyone did very well. We learned why we needed a Mishnah, and then we started studying one. One thing we tried to understand is that even though Jewish law is in the Mishnah, it’s not the final word on Jewish law.

In Geography/History, students spent much of the week crafting, revising, and finalizing their first essays of the year. Students wrote a four-paragraph essay about the connection between liberty and health/wealth in their nations. Students posted their research on a spectrum chart. We began studying the North American continent.

This week in Art, the students reviewed primary and secondary colors and learned about intermediate colors, such as red-orange and yellow-green (there are 6 in total). Ask your student to name one or two. We also discussed one-point perspective and began a project that incorporated both subjects.

This week in Music,  we learned about the music history of Ireland. We started diving into instruments, dances, and special traditions that have influenced their music throughout history. Our Mimi Award Winner was Anna, and our performer was Benny on the piano!
