Grades 5-6: Week of 10/9/23

In Science class, fifth-sixth grade ecologists studied the eating behavior of the owl. Although the materials were sterile, they like to dress the part: gloves, masks, forceps and probes were the fashion for uncovering the clues to the most recent owl meal.

In Language Arts, Students began Unit 3 of vocabulary, and are now in the routine of when assignments are due. We also wrote alternate endings to our first short story, which students peer edited.

This week in Judaics we focused on parashat Beresheet. We are piloting a program from Hadar called “Devash.” It asks students great questions and encourages them to ask their own questions. Then students were able to take one of their questions and depict it some way. We had various responses including: an essay, a poem, and some plays. Please ask your student what their questions and answers were!

In Geography, students used their background on North America to begin a study of the fifty states. Groups researched regions of the United States and taught the class about their work.

This week in Music, we finished learning about the history of Ireland and worked on time signatures. Our Mimi Award winners were Cora and Ari!
