September 23-27, 2019

Anafim:
We started the week with a few very ripe bananas in our snack basket and decided to bake banana muffins which were a sweet treat along with fruit, enjoyed on Monday and Tuesday!  We introduced the creation story, with Adam and Eve and the Tree of Knowledge (which you may want to ask your child about) and made collages with various textures, mountains, clouds, and an array of insect, flower, and animal stickers.  You may have seen a shofar stitched with yarn in your child's cubbie, or a still life painting of kiddish cup, shofar, pomegranate and apple.
On Tuesday Morah Theresa and her dad, Louis visited, with a ladder and a camera, and the children happily participated in a body art activity, forming the letters 'EZRA MONTESSORI' (see photo's).
In gym this week we played Rosh Hashanah games: Shofar blast meant 'run to the blue wall,' the word 'HONEY!' meant buzz like a bee and fly to the hive, and 'APPLE!' meant run to the large red apple (ball).
On Wednesday we celebrated Micha's fourth birthday and his treat / our treat was Oreo ice cream cones - good choice Micha!
We all (both classrooms) enjoyed meeting Li'on and Tal, the Israeli emissaries who will play games and sing with us every second Wednesday.  This week they played a Rosh Hashanah memory card game and 'getting to know you.'

Garinim:
Our theme this week is Rosh Hashanah. The children were busy painting apples with water colors, cutting out large apples with scissors, and creating shofar’s out of textured paper. We have been doing so many activities with apples, we decided to do some baking! We made apple muffins and the children helped mix all of the ingredients and we enjoyed them for snack on Wednesday. Our grocery store was presented this week, and the children took turns being the cashier, the grocer who stocks our shelves, and the customer purchasing the groceries. We learned some new Hebrew words as well! Strawberries “tootim”, Broccoli “Bro-Kah-li”, bread “lechem”, and corn “teeras”. We practiced our new vocabulary as we shopped! At group time, we played an apple tree memory game where the children would flip over paper apple trees with numbers on them, and then need to remember which number was where.

The books that we shared were “The World’s Birthday", “What a Way to Start a Nee Year”, “Does a Kangaroo have a Mother Too”, “Today is the Birthday of the World”.
