Anafimand whole school activities:
We have been at school for two months now and the children are comfortable, know what is expected of them, familiar with the daily routines and eager to participate in all activities.  We used to change the date and weather board at the start of group each day, but now the children are eager to change it each morning on their own, even becoming familiar with the Hebrew words, like 'geshem' (rain) and the days of the week (even though the Hebrew day of the week is not always changed to the correct day of the week ;) Taking care of OUR classroom and OUR friends includes being kind to everyone, changing our seats at lunchtime and snacktime for the opportunity to socialize with everyone. And also mopping the floor, carpet sweeping, re-rolling the mats when they are not neatly returned to their place and reminding a friend to put their tray back on the shelf ready for the next friend to use...'without carrot peels all over the tray!'
Noah's Ark is the broader theme this week, with watercolor, sponge painting, collage creations all rolled into one.  They will be completed and on display soon!  Box construction is out with the children encouraged to create animals that filled the ark.  We had a giraffe, lion, sheep, alligator, octopus (!) and monkey (and a few other 'robot animals that don't actually look like animals but are!'). Our children are good negotiators.
We took turns acting out an animal while the rest of the group guessed the animal by behavior or sound.  The lizard had us guessing for a while!  The children were completely absorbed in the story The Chameleon That Saved Noah's Ark, by Yael Molchadsky. The story includes much interesting information and opportunity for discussion,  including nocturnal animals, herbivorous animals, and specifically about chameleons, how they use their ability to camouflage, use of their long sticky tongue and choice of diet.  Ask your child what a chameleon eats.
On Tuesday we celebrated Elise's birthday, with her mom, Sami and 'big sister,' Li'on, our Israeli emissary who is staying with the family right now.  (If anyone is interested in hosting an Israel emissary for a few months in the future, let us know - it's a wonderful experience for the family and the children love having a big sister or brother.)  Happy Fourth Birthday Elise!

Garinim:
This week we finished the Story of Creation and began Noah’s Ark. Our bulletin board is now complete with our creation story line. The children took turns creating a collage that represents each of the days of creation. The children also wrote a story about their interpretation of creation. Please feel free to come and see it! In addition to our bulletin board, we made bird stamper and fish stamper creations, painted our feet to make footprints to represent “man and woman”, and went “fishing” in our water table. We also began to talk about Noah’s Ark. the children made Noah’s Ark Mobile’s that are also hanging outside of our classroom. We cut out magazine pictures of animals and glued them onto a brown ark. Then created a rainbow to hang it from. We read “Kitten’s First Full Moon”, “Good Night, Laila Tov”, “Noah’s Ark”, “Noah’s Bed”. We also learned some new songs: “Good Old Noah Built an Ark” (sung to the tune of Old MacDonald). “Good old Noah built an ark, like G-d told him to. And on that ark he took two, Like G-d told him to.” Continue song by adding different animal names. We also learned “Five Little Pumpkins”. Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate. The first one said “Oh my it’s getting late”. The second one said “There is fog rolling through the air”, the third one said “But we don’t care”. The fourth one said “I’m ready for some fun “. The fifth one said “Let’s run and run and run!”. Woooooo went the wind and our went the light and the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
