Anafim:
We welcome Henry C. and his parents Chelsea and Eric to our Montessori family. Step right in and join in the fun!
'It's been a crazy day' said one student as we put away activities and lined up at the door for a birthday visit in the Garinim classroom - Happy 4th Birthday Ben Greenberg! This followed with Morah Marisol doing the weekly Torah parsha - this week all the children wore either a Queen Esther or a King Achashverosh crown as the Purim story was told.  We then all stood up and practiced our Purim songs that we will be singing on Tuesday morning as we join the rest of Ezra in the Chapel to hear the Megilat Esther (scroll of Esther/ the Purim story). Everyone will be dressed in costume of choice and each child will take with their school made grogger (noise maker) to shake at the sound of Haman's name. On Monday we made Hamantaschen dough and on Tuesday we formed the three cornered cookies that we will eat on Purim.  Ask your child to sing 'Pretty Little Esther went to town...' Easel paintings of Shushan, Persia, feathered masks, character groggers, box constructed groggers, counting out twenty beans to include in each...

Monday was Dr. Seuss' birthday and we read a few books including Daisie Head Mazie , The Foot Book, and One Fish, Two fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

We sorted and counted out all the tzedakah we have been collecting and mailed a check of $100 to the Smile Train organization for corrective surgery of cleft lip and palette. Some of the children made piles of 10 pennies, others counted and grouped together 10 dimes, 20 nickels and 4 quarters.  This begins a unit on coin sorting (for some), counting (for other children), exchanging ten pennies for one dime, four quarters for one dollar... Meeting the children where they are and challenging them accordingly.  We used to play 'going to the bank' exchanging coins, but as that is somewhat of a foreign experience for many nowadays, we'll play 'shop' instead! If you have a little purse/wallet lying around looking for a new home, please send it in.

Garinim:
On Monday we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday and painted his huge 'Cat in the Hat' red and white striped hat at the easel.
This week we made hamantachen to get ready for Purim, on paper and the real thing! We enjoyed making the dough together as a class!  We also practiced tracing hamantachen with the triangle metal inset. This was fun as each child was able to choose the filling of their choice ( coloring it in the color of the jelly they like best). On Wednesday, Ben Greenberg's mom and baby sister joined us to celebrate Ben's 4th birthday! Both classes joined together for the celebration and for cupcakes!
For Parasha of the week, Morah Marisol told us the story of Purim and the children all wore either a King Achashverosh or a Queen Esther crown.  The Purim characters went up on the felt board as the story was told. The children later made masks for Purim by gluing on sequins, feathers and colored paper. We are singing songs to get ready for the holiday.  The children particularly enjoy the one about Haman's hat having three corners.  They also sing
'Pretty little Esther went to town
She bought a little Hamantaschen nice and brown.
She bit a little corner and then she cried
Goody, goody, goody, there's something nice inside!
