Our year is off to an amazing start. We are all quickly becoming comfortable in the classroom and
learning the routine of the day. With Rosh Hashanah on the earlier side this year we jumped right into
activities for the holiday. We made apples by gluing red and yellow tissue paper onto cutouts, used red
and green dot markers to make apples and added brown stems to all the apples. We also
colored shofars brown and had a chance to look at and feel a real shofar. We pretended to blow the
shofar and practiced a big Tikiyah! The children had the chance to make a card for their families to
wish everyone a Shanah Tovah. Those that brought in apples tasted the sticky sweetness of honey and
most enjoyed how it tasted. Outside we have loved going for a ride on the swings and driving vehicles
around the bigger playground and hanging out on the spider web on the smaller playground. We hope
you all have a very happy Rosh Hashanah and are so excited for so many more weeks together.

 

We had a great first week of school.  All the routines of the classroom were introduced to the children very slowly.  We mainly focused on respecting one another as classmates.  This is a very important key to having a peaceful classroom and having the children feeling safe and secure.  The emotional well being of a child is very important especially in the beginning of the school year. There was a lot of role modeling demonstrated to the children on social graces.  For example,  a child may ask another child if they can work with them.  That child has the option to say 'yes sure' or 'no thank you'.  If they say 'no thank you' it’s ok and they are still friends.  We read many Back to School books and Rosh Hashanah books. We also started our specials with Gym and Music this week.  On Tuesdays we have gym with Coach Oren and on Thursdays we have music with Morah Dawn.  They all enjoyed this special time with them.  Have a Happy New Year!!!!!

 

Other first week Keshet activities included woodworking and elastic designs, handwriting practice ( on dry erase and magnetic boards) and music, gym and Hebrew classes.

Each week we will do a science unit; this week’s was all about honey bees - ask your Keshet student for some facts, and when they show you their bee, ask what the red part in the front is, how many legs, how many eyes… Ask if their bee is a drone, and if it has a stinger. 

 

With the Jewish calendar being in line with the lunar calendar, we celebrate all the holidays so early this year. September will be a rush and will go by in a blur, but come October we'll all be old friends :)
