Such a busy week! We made a “paper garden”. The children used brown construction paper for the dirt, a cut out paper watering can, real seeds to “plant “ and a blue bingo dotter for the water! Such a lovely garden!
We made beautiful lady bugs and counted how many spots we gave each one, and enjoyed “bug” yoga with Morah Sherri.
We have continued the counting of the Omer at circle time and made construction paper kites to celebrate Lag B’ Omer.
We are loving watching our pepper seeds grow! Soon we can bring them home.

We talked a lot about Butterflies this week. The Life Cycle of a Butterfly was discussed with the kids. Our caterpillars in our classroom are moving and grooving. Most of the caterpillars climbed to the top of the jar and formed their chrysalis. The kids are enjoying this very much. We read some butterfly stories. Many of the children completed their world maps this week.
Typically the counting of the Omer is a time for personal reflection. The past few weeks we have been focusing on specific behaviors. For example, last week we reviewed what it means to be rude and why that is unkind. This week we talked about teasing and how sad it makes others feel to be teased. What is heart warming is that the children understand and rally for the child that is being mistreated in the books.
For Lag B’ Omer we had a “picnic”! Well we made it look that way with red and white checkered table cloths that draped our tables. The children helped to “make” a fire with paper towel rolls and red, yellow and orange tissue paper. Of course many Lag B’ Omer related crafts were available for the children to complete if they chose to.

What do caterpillars, butterflies, moths and Lag B'Omer have in common? They were all celebrated at school this week :)
Our Painted Lady caterpillars grew each day, climbed up the sides of their container and are now all hanging upside down as chrysalises. Many of the children are documenting this in the Butterfly Books. Ask your child the difference between a butterfly and a moth. Perhaps they too were fascinated by the Vampire moths, or the migration of the Monarch butterflies.
We're counting the Omer each day, from the second day of Passover to Shavuot (when the Ten Commandments were received on Mount Sinai), and today is the 33rd day - we can look at this day as a day to celebrate learning, to think about a time of peace amidst plague (what is a plague and why is it happening?!) Perhaps a time to think about and respect one another, to notice and appreciate our differences and celebrate kindness. Some people celebrate this as the day that Rabbi Akiva's students were spared, or the yahrtzeit of one of his famous students, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. Israeli's and others around the world celebrate with joy. We celebrated in song while sitting around our pretend campfire, pretending to roast marshmallows, and enjoyed a picnic lunch outdoors.

We counted colored beads and made caterpillar addition equations, worked on our 'All About Me' books, played rhyming games and made our own silly rhymes. We played number games which included carefully colored shapes with symmetry, throwing two dice, adding the numbers and coloring the quantity on the 'hundred paper'. Friday was a special Lag B'Omer kite making day and we raced around on this windy day flying them!
ANTS, ANTS and more ANTS. We talked a lot about what Ants do on a daily basis, their important jobs and what they do to survive. Also, we did an ant project with the children; cute ants made out of cardboard to bring home with them.
