Grades 7-8: Week of 3/25/24

In Social Studies, students studied the arms race aspects of the Cold War, learning about NATO and the Warsaw Pact, and the technology that threatened but never led to confrontation between the superpowers. We also took a break from history, based on a survey of the students who asked for more economics, law, and health-related topics, to discuss the Affordable Care Act and the health care issues in the U.S. before and since.

In Language Arts, we are working on a mock trial of Squealer!

Students in Civics were asked last week what current events or civics issues they would like to study further this year. Answers varied from ‘transgender issues’ to ‘economics’ to ‘terrorism and Mid east’ topics.  For now, we were able to do a day-deep-dive into the Affordable Care Act, pros, cons, lingering problems, and the health care issues in the U.S. before and since.

In Judaics, we are starting studying BT Pesachim 108b-109a.

This week in Music, we got to learn about the Romantic Era from Ariel and Lital. We also started learning about the music history of Italy! Our Mimi Award Winners were Tamar and Hadassah!

Student Government
From our co-presidents: SG met this week to pass legislation on ending our book drive and rewarding the top class collection, and SG is one class vote away from ratifying the new Ezra Student Constitution. More soon.
