Grades 7-8: Week of 10/23/23

In Social Studies, we started by outlining the most basic differences between the two major American parties. This was needed so that other discussions make more sense, and kids thrived during the lesson! Students also took a history test, covering the Constitution and Bill of Rights through the Jefferson Presidency. Ask your child why Thomas Jefferson struggled with the Louisiana Purchase and you will see the connection between law and the history we are studying!

In Civics, we continued the analysis of various court cases, looking at Miranda rights and when there are exceptions to rights based on age or other factors. This is always of interest to students at this age! The kids did a nice job understanding the nuances of the law in these areas in our discussion.

This week in Art, the students learned about gargoyles and grotesques as architectural elements (ask them the difference between the two and their purposes) and started to create their own out of clay.
